transatlantic race | 2015

2,800 miles Newport, R.I to Lizard Point

On the 28 June 2015, our Scarlet Oyster team will be racing across the Atlantic from Newport, Rhode Island to Lizard Point, just west of Plymouth England. The Transatlantic Race, organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron and the New York Yacht Club, is the ultimate test of ocean racing skill and endurance.

Scarlet Oyster will be joining a fleet of 50 yachts crewed with some of the world’s top professional racers. We will be one of the few amateur crews taking part in this epic race and whilst we all have significant offshore and ocean sailing experience, there is no doubt this is going to be a serious challenge.

Our team of 10 will be raising money for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, a charity which takes young people sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer. Scarlet Oyster has a long history of working with the Trust and we would like to continue this tradition and make our own small contribution. The tough challenges that we will face during our race (and through our own choosing) are nothing compared to the challenges that young children face who are recovering from cancer.

Please follow us on Facebook and our Crew Blog as we prepare for and take part in this challenging transatlantic adventure!
